Check the program before changing the payment plan
Being on Coursera does not establish that a program is included in Coursera Plus. Open the exact program you are taking, check its current inclusion, and record the account and purchase that provide your access. A similarly named course, certificate, or subscription is not a substitute for identifying the enrollment you actually use.
If inclusion is unclear, resolve that question before buying Plus or cancelling a plan you still need. A broader catalog can be useful, but it does not justify a second bill by itself. Our guidance is based on official documentation, not an observed account migration. No cancellation, refund, or access change has been tested for your account.
Use a decision table before pressing subscribe
These are decision branches, not instructions to cancel every existing purchase. Employer access, a one-time purchase, and a different subscription arrangement may have different conditions. Use the purchase shown in your account and its applicable terms rather than transferring this Specialization-to-Plus answer to every enrollment type.

Put the two billing timelines next to each other
Write one line for the existing subscription: product name, renewal amount, next charge date, and paid access end date. Write a second for the proposed Plus purchase: first invoice, billing interval, any trial or promotion conditions, and regular renewal. Use the actual checkout rather than a remembered advertised monthly price.
As a planning example, suppose current access ends on the twentieth and the new subscription starts on the twelfth. The dates overlap. That observation does not show the overlap is necessary, refundable, or expensive enough to justify changing your study plan. Compare the real invoices and decide whether immediate access adds something you need before the existing period ends.
Keep cancellation separate from refund and progress
Coursera's current subscription terms describe cancellation through My Purchases or support, generally taking effect at the end of the current billing period. Cancellation stops future renewal; it does not automatically return an earlier payment. A refund request is separate and depends on the product, charge, timing, and applicable terms. Do not assume that discovering two bills guarantees a refund.
The Plus FAQ says course progress is preserved when the previous Specialization subscription is cancelled. Saved progress is not a promise of continuing paid access to every course or assessment. Confirm the replacement enrollment actually covers the work you intend to do. Keep your own project notes independently so that your learning plan is not stored only in a subscription dashboard.
Verify the change instead of assuming it worked
If the account does not match the documented behavior, stop making additional purchases to repair the confusion. Ask support about the specific product and dates, keeping private payment details out of public discussions. Record the unresolved question rather than marking a planned change as completed.
- Check the product name before cancelling; stopping Plus instead of the old Specialization does not implement the intended switch.
- Retain the confirmation and effective date. An abandoned tab is not evidence of cancellation.
- Inspect the old subscription's next-billing state and the new subscription's renewal separately.
- Open the intended program under the account you are using and verify the access needed for your next lesson or assessment.
- If a new charge appears unexpectedly, match it to the subscription and invoice before assuming a duplicate charge or requesting a refund.

Does Coursera Plus automatically cancel my Specialization subscription?
No. The Plus FAQ says existing Specialization subscriptions need separate cancellation to avoid overlapping charges. Confirm the intended program is included before treating Plus as a replacement.
Will cancelling the previous Specialization erase my progress?
